Is Mango Leather Vegan? Material Facts & Alternatives

Also known as: MangaTex, Fruit leather (mango)

Vegan

No animal products or byproducts are involved in the production of this material.

Origin

Plant-based — produced from mango waste (skins and seeds that are discarded during mango juice and pulp production). Typically combined with a PU binder for durability.

Common Uses

Small accessories, wallets, phone cases, shoe uppers, sample collections.

Durability

Moderate — comparable to apple leather and mid-grade PU leather.

Environmental Impact

Low Environmental Impact

Uses agricultural waste that would otherwise be discarded or composted. Mango cultivation is primarily for food — the leather is a pure byproduct with no dedicated agricultural footprint.

Editorial Notes

A newer entrant in the fruit waste leather category. Less commercially established than Piñatex or apple leather. India, which produces approximately 40% of global mangoes, has significant raw material supply. The PU binder content limits full biodegradability but the waste valorisation story is compelling.
