Editorial Notes

Most commercially produced wine, beer, and juice passes through filtration at some stage. The filtration medium (which may be cellulose, diatomaceous earth, or membrane filters) does not enter the final product. Filtration is sometimes criticised by natural wine producers as removing flavour compounds alongside unwanted particles. 'Unfiltered' wines have grown in popularity.
